Hi! I'm Syeda!
I'm a Pakistani-American writer, born and raised in the 201 (I'm very serious about Jersey City).
I received a dual Bachelor’s degree in both English and Journalism and Media Studies as well as a Creative Writing certificate from Rutgers University, before going on to get my Master’s in Journalism at Columbia University’ Graduate School of Journalism.
I've in the lifestyle space since 2019, writing about sex & relationships, health & wellness, culture & identity, and more in major publications including The Cut, Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, TimeOut, HuffPo, and Refinery29.
Over the course of my career, I've had the honor of meeting and interviewing the coolest people. In turn, I’ve built up a network of specialists who are the best in the 'biz. From sexologists to psychologists to anal-botox experts, I've made it my mission to help my readers make sense of online discourse through an expert’s lens. Speaking of experts, I’m also an ABS-certified public information sexologist.
And my knowledge and passion for sex, relationships, and wellness goes far beyond the page... all the way to in front of the camera.
I wrote and hosted a two-part series for NowThis on sexual health and wellness, on topics including “sex myths” and “masturbation.”
When I'm not talking, writing, or creating content about sex, I’m creating programming for newsrooms.
As a former assistant managing editor for Business Insider, I led the Fellowship Program, overseeing the recruiting, hiring, and mentoring for 65-80 fellows every six months. I created a curriculum for their professional development and helped create metrics to assess their success as fellows.
I even helped launch a mid-career level fellowship for those who were displaced by humanitarian reasons in other countries.
I then went on to create an inaugural fellowship program for The Pivot Fund, a Georgia-based nonprofit aimed at providing funding for BIPOC newsrooms.
Diversity, equity, and inclusions aren't just buzzwords for me — they're at the core of my ethos for all of my work.
You can see that when you check out my work!
